Welcome to the Okemos High Class of 1964 web site! We celebrated the 55 year anniversary of our graduation in 2019....a grand time was had by all. Special recogintion was given to Jim Phelan who has attended EVERY class reuion!  Morever, he has tracked down the location and contact information of all but one of our classmates.  We also recoginzed Geri and Lancea for having organized many of our reuions over the years.  We look forward to as much fun and good times during our 60th in 2024. Larry L. Gober (1946-2019)

With sadness we belatedly report the passing of Larry Gober, July 26th, 2019, in Indianapolis, Indiana.  

Larry retired in 2016 from Chisholm Lumber in Indianapolis where he had worked in sales for 16 years. He was a member of the Rushville American Legion Post #150 & also a member of the Rushville Elk's Lodge #1307.

Gary Michael ("Mike") McDowall (1946-2020)

August 12, 2020.  With sadness we report the unexpected passing of Gary Michael ("Mike") McDowall on August 3,, 2020, in St. Petersburg, Florida.  His obituary  as printed in the Lansing State Journal can be found by clicking here and on the "In Memory" page of this site.  Mike spent the past 5 years enjoying the company of his significant other and our classmate, Gail Malkiewicz (Austin).  The two of them "reconnected" shortly after our 50th Reunion in 2014.

Robert Gene Forsberg (1946-2020)

With sadness, we report the passing of Robert Gene "Bob or Bobby G." Forsberg, only child of Robert C. (1919-1973) and Mildred Irene "Millie" (Dassance) (1919-2002) Forsberg.  Bob was born 28 March 1946; he suddenly passed away 15 January 2020 in Cadillac, Wexford County, Michigan. Bob's father, a WWII veteran, was owner and operator of Forsberg Realty and Home Builders in Okemos. Bob serrved honorably in the United States Marine Corps.

Carol Wagenvoord (Reynolds) - (1946-2019)

Sad news from Grant Reynolds:

"I wanted everyone to know that Carol Reynolds (Wagenvoord) passed away Sunday noon on March 3rd, 2019.  A service will be held in Lansing at the New Covenant Christian Church on Saturday the 30th of March at 11:30 am."

Donna Waldron (Lintz) (1946-2017)

Donna passed away August, 2017, after 52 years of marriage.  Details about her life and marriage are found on her "In Memory" page.

Linda Ann Wronski (1946-2015)

Linda passed on March 19, 2015 in Grand Haven, Michigan, due to sepsis.  She spent her final days in a senior care facility.  No further details are available.

John M. G. "Mike" de Martelly (1946-2018)

With sadness we report the passing on August 26, 2018 of Mike de Martelly from pancreatic cancer.  He was a member of our class from kindergarten through 9th grade.  Anne Dahnke (Ramaley) remembers that "he went to a private HS in the East for 3 years. He went to the University of Michigan for a couple of years. When his mom died unexpectedly he returned to Okemos so he could help his father out and then finished college at Michigan State." Mike retired in 2011 from the New Hampshire Department of Transportation. He was living in Harrisville, NH.  His father was a famous artist and professor at Michigan State, John Stanton de Martelly.  A brief obituary can be found by clicking here.

Stehman Nominated as 2018 OHS Distinguished Alumnus of the Year

The Class of 1964 is rightfully proud that the Okemos Alumni Association has nominated our classmate, Dr. Frederick B Stehman, to be the recipient of the 2018 Okemos High School Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award.  This award honors the the Okemos alumnus/alumna "who demonstrates exceptional dedication and achievement as well as humanitarian contributions."     

Fred is a most worthy nominee in more ways than one.  Click here to read the nomination document created by Sherrie Paty Barber ('66).  His record of exceptional accomplishment, dedication, and humanitarian contributions is second-to-none.  Please take a moment and email Fred your hearty personal congratulations for an honor well deserved. 

Fred is unusually modest and has declined to accept the award stating that "I am not as convinced that I belong on the same level as these other recipients.  I do appreciate the thought and it is an honor to be considered."  

Nancy "Nan" Meadows (1945-2017)

With sympathies to Lee, I am saddened to inform you of the passing of Lee's wife, Nancy, this past March of kidney cancer.  A registered architect, she lived with Lee in Annapolis, Maryland for the past few years.  A full obituary can be found by clicking here.  

Kuni Neuchterlein (Strange) (1945-2017)

With sadness, we report the passing of Kuni on April 15, 2017, in West Branch, NJ, of pancreatic cancer. Her obituary was published yesterday:

Kuni A. Strange (nee Neuchterlein), died Saturday, April 15, 2017 peacefully at home. She was raised in Lansing and Okemos Michigan, graduated from Valparaiso University in Indiana, and has lived in Monmouth County since 1971. An avid artist who has worked in multiple media, she was a longtime member of the Guild of Creative Artists in Shrewsbury and the Plein Aire Painters of the Jersey Coast. An active member of the St Mary's Parish in Deal, she particularly liked to combine her artistic and religious passions. 

She is survived by her husband of 46 years John; children, Ann of Golden, CO, Daniel of Boston and Sarah Hamouda (Stephen) of Tucson, AZ and her grandson, Stephen Hamouda, Jr. She is also survived by 3 brothers, Paul (Ginny) of Ohio, Ted (Ana) of California, and Phil (Linda) of Alaska; sisters-in-law, Wanda Strange of Kentucky and Carol (Walter) Staudenbauer of Bavaria; and a nephew and 5 nieces. 

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 4-7 pm Tuesday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 am Wednesday at St Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Catholic Church, 146 Richmond Ave, Deal, NJ. For condolences, please visit www.fiorefuneralhomes.com.

New Okemos High School Alumni Web Site

Your class of '64 has joined the class of '65 (Rod Ellis and Gary Weeber) in creating a new Okemos High School Alumni web site.  You are encouraged to join by going to www.okemosalumni.org and using the same user ID and password as you use for this site.  Check it out.  It is an easy way to connect to members of other classes; John Bjorkquist has contributed an essay and other interesting new materials can be found there.  We will keep this Class of '64 web site active for the forseeable future.  If you have any questions, please contact Bob Bratzler.

Jan Heiser (Bomers) (1946-2017)

With sadness we report the death of Jan Heiser Bomers on February 17, 2017.  Here is the obituary as printed in the Lansing State Journal on February 19th.

Janis E. Bomers died peacefully at home on February 10, 2017 in Williamston, Michigan at the age of 70.

Jan is survived by her brother Richard Heiser (Deborah); two daughters Leslie Jo Hurwitz (David) and Bethany Daniel (Alan); her three step children, Susan Acciaioli (John), Gregory Bomers (Annette), and Jason Bomers (Renee), and eight grandchildren.  Jan is preceded in death by her parents Lucretia and Emmett Heiser and her husband Harry G. Bomers.

Jan was born in Toledo, Ohio, moved to the Lansing area in 1957 and has remained in the area working in the real estate industry for Coldwell Banker Hubbell Briarwood Realty since the late 1980's.  She enjoyed spending time with family, traveling with friends, playing golf, and reading.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.  Contributions in Jan's memory may be made to the Williamston Library, 201 School St., Williamston, MI 48895. The Family would like to thank the University of Michigan Hospital and Great Lakes Hospice for their care and kindness.

Arlo D Peterson (1947-2016)

Betsy Ann Brody Gold McDowall

We spoke with Mike McDowall on September 28, 2015.  He informed me that Betsy's obituary could be found in the Detroit Jewish News.  Below is the lead in....the full obituary can be found here.  Mike is doing well taking a road trip from Florida to Michigan to Pennsylvania and back.

BETSY ANN BRODY GOLD MCDOWALL, of Tampa, Fla., died Dec. 27, 2014.

She lives in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to be loved by her. She was a strong, vivacious and courageous woman.

She was a proud graduate of Cranbrook Kingswood and was involved heavily in the art community in Birmingham, including chairing the Birmingham Art Fair. In her later years, Betsy was a resident of Saugatuck and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. She loved the sun, her children and cutting a mean rug to an...

Tom Woolner Passes

With sadness we report the death of Tom Woolner on August 7th in Oakland, CA from metastatic lung cancer.  He was a practicing psychotherapist in Novato, CA.  No other details are available.
